Description

Origonally concieved in 1941, but delayed several years due to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the evantual war, this locomotive was a modern 4-6-0, based the London Midland and Scottish Railway's Stainer class 5 (Famously known as the Black 5).

Evantually built in 1948, this locomotive type was numbered from 5450, with 50 examples in service. The class carried two schemes, Half with a Red and Cream trim, with the rest being painted in simple plain black. The engines were evantually followed by in 1952 a class that was based on British Railways 4MT light 4-6-0, a slighty more advanced version of the engines.

The engines were rather exceptional, mostly in medium express service, and were rather quick with hotshot trains. The engine's operating regions were the Frisco Pacific, the Mystic (Ex-York), and the Penn Jersey regions.
---
In 1968, a rebuilt version of 5452 appeared along the Northern Region mainlines. This engine was rebuilt with a larger boiler, larger drivers and several other mods that also included a double stack. It was renumbered 6133 and was rebuilt primarily as a test bed to see if other 5450 class engines could be rebuilt in this form, but due to the introduction of second generation diesels, the idea quickly fizzled out.
