Description
The Type 2 Electric locomotive was first built in 1911 for use on electrified sections of Michigan Frisco & Southern Central's Northern Route. The engines are a 2-D+D-1 (D for powered axles), from #5831-5845 (30 counting both A & B units).
The Electrified sections stemmed mostly from the inability of some steam locomotives being unable to climb sections of the line without time-consuming helpers and steep grades.
As such, The Type 2 was built to be a large, power locomotive, a solution to a costly and time consuming issue that never really resolved itself until later years, but still proved to a good investment otherwise.
